Development of Serious Games for Apprenticeship: A Nationwide Game-Based Program for Vocational Education
摘要
In this chapter, we want to present the findings of a real case in which serious games are used to transfer theoretical and practical skills to apprentices. On behalf of the German Federal Institute of Vocational Education, four simulation games will be developed between 2023 and 2025 on digitalization, sustainability, safety, and law. Serious games are to be developed and used for four standard job profile positions, that is, four content clusters that are included in the training in the dual vocational education and training system for all apprenticeships in Germany. The aim is to work on the contents and selected learning objectives for training practice in a didactically meaningful, experience-oriented, and motivating form for trainees. During the design and implementation of the games, it was important for us to make sure that the four serious games draw on common instructional and technical elements. In our contribution, we show how the participatory conception and partly the development of this project was carried out together with the relevant stakeholders, and we use this case as an example to discuss which process steps, quality criteria, and design elements are crucial for a transfer of games into vocational education practice.
