The JBLF of Nagaland is the first model federation of the state, constituted by the Angamese community. With a sound governance system, it has remarkably reached about 93% of the target households. Its democratic spirit has enabled reliable access to affordable financial services at the grassroots and paved the way for social inclusion and livelihood promotion. A focused inclusion of elderly and PwDs through 90 special SHGs, involving men, too, and including other types of vulnerable individuals under regular SHGs is exemplary. A few of its noteworthy initiatives include the focused efforts for enterprise development under the SVEP (Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme) through a credit-plus approach, creating trust among banks about SHGs, and meticulous formulation of a vulnerability reduction plan. The women of SHGs have emerged as an interface between development and local governance created based on local norms. JBLF’s leaders are serious about pursuing its vision of ‘happy women, happy family, and happy village.’
