The Sangani CLF is among the few formally registered federations in Gujarat. With 857 members, SCLF functions in one of the backward and socially conservative areas of the Chotila taluka, based on monsoon-dependent agriculture. Farming is women-oriented even as the male labor force migrates seasonally to industrial areas. The federation has seen the emergence of a few inspiring, exceptional first-generation leaders. Still, the SHGs and federations are confronted with the problem of leadership as women are reluctant to take up leadership roles.
