Risk exploration is a wind vane that guides the direction of exploration. As one of the four major basins in China, Sichuan Basin was with over 20 sets of vertically sedimented oil and gas exploration layers which were enrich in various types of resources such as conventional gas, tight gas, and coal-bed gas. The abundant resources provide a steady source of power for the industrial development of the western region. Due to the numerous layers and unclear potential distribution, it is difficult to carry out large-scale exploration. The discovery and exploration of the potential of layers requires risk exploration first, in order to accurately evaluate the enormous industrial value of layers. For many years, in response to issues such as unclear exploration directions and unclear potential in the middle and shallow layers of the central and northeastern Sichuan region, based on the overall basin, we have studied and characterized the understanding of key reservoir formation laws in the central and northeastern Sichuan region. Through careful exploration, we have deployed and implemented two risk exploration wells, TT1 and PA1, in multiple layers such as the Maokou Formation of the Lower Permian and the Lianggaoshan Formation of the Jurassic. We have discovered and expanded our understanding of potential in the field, estimating the geological resources of natural gas at 218 trillion cubic meters and shale oil at 2.675 billion tons, It has laid a solid foundation for the continuous development of oil and gas in the oilfield.
