Overview of Carbonate Deposition Zones and Comprehensive Characteristics of Hydrocarbon Reservoirs in the Eastern and Southern Margins of the Pre-Caspian Basin

Carbonate deposits were widely developed in the late Paleozoic in the Pre-Caspian Basin, which provided a good reservoir for oil and gas accumulation. A comparative analysis of the basic characteristics of pre-salt oil and gas reservoirs in the eastern and southern margins of the Pre-Caspian Basin can provide a theoretical basis for regional oil and gas exploration and development. This study focuses on the KE, ZZ, and NT oil fields on the eastern margin of the basin, as well as the K and T oil fields on the southern margin. Starting from the background of the geological structure, it compares and analyzes the differences in the sedimentary and diagenetic environments of the eastern and southern margin of the basin, and further combines data such as core, thinsections to clarify the differences in reservoir characteristics of the eastern and southern margin. The research results show that the main reservoirs in the eastern and southern edges of the basin are carboniferous carbonate rocks, and the reservoirs in the eastern edge of the basin are mostly large open platforms with flat edges against the carbonate oolitic beach and internal beach, relatively thin reservoirs, stratified edge water reservoirs with relatively shallow burial depth and good reservoir physical properties, but the reservoir scale is relatively small and the productivity per well is low. The reservoirs in the southern margin of the basin are mostly isolated carbonate platforms with steep edges developed in shallow water environment, and the bottom water massive reservoirs have relatively deep burial depth, relatively poor physical properties, large reservoir scale and high average productivity per well. This study identified the significant differences in the comprehensive characteristics of reservoirs and their production dynamic characteristics in the east and south margins of the Pre-Caspian Basin, and the results provided a reference for the exploration and development of this area and the efficient development of other similar carbonate reservoirs.
