This chapter aims to identify the factors that facilitate or hinder Israel’s national resilience during a crisis. To achieve this objective, it outlines the components of national resilience and analyzes their development after the October 7, 2023 attack and the six months of the Gaza conflict. Israel faced a significant challenge in its ability to withstand and bounce back from the Hamas-led surprise attack due to its scale and intensity. This study addresses the following questions to gain an in-depth understanding of how Israel’s resiliency has changed or been sustained: (1) What factors have been used to assess national resilience in Israel? (2) What factors can be identified as facilitating or hindering the development of national resilience after the October 7 attack and during the six months of the Gaza conflict? After analyzing the main components of national resilience in Israel, including patriotism, trust in political and public institutions, social solidarity, and optimism, this study argues that national resilience has become more uncertain as the conflict progresses. During the six months of the Gaza conflict, apart from patriotism, the other variables were identified as elements that might hinder the development of national resilience. Furthermore, the impact of internal polarization and international isolation on the development of national resilience is being considered.
