Harnessing Local Community Wisdom as the Ultimate Authority in Hotel Housekeeping Leadership
摘要
Housekeeping is frequently perceived as unappealing and, hence, the overlooked and undervalued area in the hospitality industry, which leads to several adverse implications for housekeeping employees and their work performance. This phenomenon piques the researcher’s interest; therefore, this research investigates proven best practices in local wisdom-based housekeeping leadership that effectively transform housekeeping into a valued department. The study examines the effectiveness of local wisdom-based housekeeping leadership attributes employed in well-established hotels. In-depth interviews and online hotel guest reviews were used to collect data. The informants for this study were purposely chosen, and they comprised executive housekeepers, hotel managers, and personnel with firsthand housekeeping leadership skills and hands-on housekeeping experience. The data were then explored using the interpretative phenomenological analysis, or IPA method, which included data reduction techniques such as coding and categorizing to identify the theme and sub-themes of the housekeeping leadership concept. The study’s key findings indicate that local wisdom-based housekeeping leadership significantly improves housekeeping quality performance, transforms housekeeping worth into an attribute valued, and brings back truth as the authority.
