Culinary Diplomacy (Indonesian Menu) to Promote Sustainability and the Success of G20 Indonesia Summit

Diplomatic relations with foreign countries are necessary for a nation to be sustainable. Consequently, a country ought to keep up its diplomatic ties. This study attempted to (1) analyze from a theoretical perspective the roles that culinary diplomacy plays in promoting sustainability and the success of the 17th G20 Summit, (2) ascertain the steps and minimal standards involved in designing an Indonesian menu by professional chefs in Indonesia for the 17th G20 Summit, and (3) elaborate on the opinions of international figures regarding the banquet event that was a part of the 17th G20 Summit. The ideas of politics, cuisine, and anthropology highlighted the research. To be more precise, a literature review was used in conjunction with qualitative research methods. The study findings demonstrated that, theoretically, Indonesian cuisine, as culinary diplomacy, has a significant impact on politics, anthropology, and the determination of public diplomacy and cultural diplomacy in establishing diplomatic ties among G20 nations. Additionally, it was discovered that the menu ought to be suitable in terms of ideas, displays, oversight of food safety, and banquet location. The use of Indonesian cuisine in cultural and public diplomacy was able to enhance prestige and demonstrate Indonesia’s accomplishments as chairman of the president. All of the delegates and visitors who participated complimented the success of the event and the help that culinary, cultural, and political diplomacy provided in promoting sustainability.
