Beyond Smart City: The AI City is Coming

This chapter delves into the evolution of AI technology, particularly focusing on the transition from traditional AI to AI 2.0AI 2.0. It elucidates advances in seven key areas: machine theorem proving, machine translation, expert systems, gaming, pattern recognition, learning, and robotics. The defining characteristics of AI 2.0 encompass big data intelligence, swarm intelligence, cross-media intelligence, human–machine hybrid augmented intelligence, and autonomous intelligent systems. These features propel innovation and progress in sectors such as smart cities, smart healthcare, and autonomous driving. Big data intelligence facilitates AI learning through vast datasets; swarm intelligence underscores collaborative solutions for complex tasks; cross-media intelligence integrates diverse data types to enhance intelligence; human–machine hybrid augmented intelligence optimizes decision-making processes in industrial and medical fields. Autonomous intelligent systems, including drones, are rapidly approaching human-level capabilities. Additionally, this chapter introduces the emerging concept of the “AI cityAI city,” highlighting the application of AI technology in urban life, production, and ecosystems. Notably, the AI city pilot project in Maqiao Town, Minhang District, Shanghai, has demonstrated significant potential for practical applications.
