The second generation of feedstocks includes non-edible crops such as camelina and jatropha. The third generation relies on algae for manufacturing. Economic factors, market conditions, and laws all have an impact on investment decisions and bioenergy innovation. This book chapter investigates the interaction between economics, intellectual property, and environmental concerns in bioenergy commercial applications.
