This paper explores the beliefs of the Yāresān community, a religious minority group primarily centered in the northwestern Zagros mountains of Iran, through an in-depth analysis of their primary religious text, Daftar-e Kalām (The Collection of Discourses), predominantly written in Gurāni. Despite the significance of these texts, they have received limited scholarly attention due to the challenges posed by the Gurāni language and the complex nature of the literature. Moreover, restricted access to the Yāresān texts, as enforced by the community, has further impeded research efforts. Consequently, scholars have often relied on secondary sources or translations, which often contain false interpretations—and misrepresentations—of the Yāresān belief system. This paper classifies and introduces the Yāresān religious corpus, providing a structured overview to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of its content. Furthermore, an in-depth analysis of the original Gurāni texts is undertaken to clarify Yāresān cosmology, theology, and eschatology, addressing and correcting previous scholarly misrepresentations. Additionally, the paper explores the potential impact of these misrepresentations on the Yāresān belief system, situating the discussion within the historical and cultural context of the Yāresān, thereby offering a more nuanced understanding of their beliefs and practices.
