This study explores the stylistic and structural dimensions of Shabaki proverbs, a genre within the oral tradition of the Shabaki-speaking community in northern Iraq. Drawing from Herdewêl Kakeyî’s 2008 collection, this research examines proverbs through phonological, morphosyntactic, and lexical lenses, identifying features that typify this genre and contribute to genre recognition among speakers. The analysis emphasizes features such as rhyme and alliteration, grammatical parallelism, and lexical patterns, which collectively serve as formal markers. These features, characteristic of Shabaki proverbs, reflect the broader Gurāni-speaking oral traditions and illustrate the unique linguistic and cultural heritage of the Shabaki community.
