Prophethood in Gülen’s Thought
摘要
Since the Enlightenment and the emergence of Islamic modernism, key debates surrounding the Prophet and his life have centred on topics such as the purpose of prophethood, the proofs and evidences of his prophethood, the nature of miracles, the relationship between Divine guidance and religion (often framed as the science/intellect vs. religion/revelation debate), and the finality of prophethood (khatm al-nubuwwah). Recognising the significance of these questions within Gülen’s perspective, this chapter comprehensively explores Islamic tradition’s stance on these issues. Gülen’s understanding of sīrah is profoundly informed by his perception of prophethood, which in turn shapes his innovative contributions to the sīrah genre. Consequently, this chapter examines his primary arguments and approach to the concept of prophethood.
