Enhancing the Geotechnical Properties of Black Cotton Soil Using Quarry Dust

The suitability of soil deposits for construction varies, with some requiring treatment for optimal performance, especially expansive or problematic soils. One effective method to enhance soil properties is through stabilization using admixtures. Continuous research efforts have focused on improving the engineering properties of soils. This study investigates the impact of quarry dust on the geotechnical properties of locally available black cotton soil. Various percentages of quarry dust ranging from 10 to 50% were added to the soil to assess its influence on both index and engineering properties. The addition of quarry dust led to notable improvements in compaction and strength characteristics, offering a promising solution for stabilizing problematic soils. This enhancement not only enhances construction quality but also potentially reduces construction costs significantly. The findings suggest quarry dust as a viable stabilizing material, demonstrating substantial improvements in the geotechnical properties of expansive soils upon its incorporation.
