The discovery of new solutions through research is commendable, but policy innovation and governance play an indispensable role in promoting and encouraging the transfer of these critical solutions. Effective governance and policy mechanisms are essential in accelerating the rate of research transfer and adoption. Thus, exploring new pathways for governance in sustainable food systems is crucial to ensuring the successful implementation of innovative solutions. While research plays a crucial role in uncovering novel solutions, the promotion and implementation of these solutions heavily rely on policy innovation and effective governance. Weak governance structures and poorly informed policies significantly hinder the transfer and adoption of research results. Therefore, investigating innovative approaches to the governance of sustainable food systems is crucial. This chapter explores case studies from various global regions, examining how strategic policy and governance shifts can enhance food security, mitigate environmental degradation, and promote social equity. The discussion begins with a comprehensive analysis of the complex challenges confronting modern food systems. These challenges, including resource depletion, climate change, and the uneven distribution of nutritious food, underscore the urgent need for inventive policy measures. This chapter investigates the efforts of governments, international bodies, and grassroots initiatives aimed at reforming and improving food systems. Through diverse global case studies, it shows how these policies positively impact sustainability, nutrition, and resilience. Two primary objectives guide this synthesis: (1) identifying effective governance policies for sustainable food systems and (2) qualitatively evaluating the critical factors that ensure sustainable practices and directions within these systems. We conduct this exploration through a systematic review, concentrating on the analysis of food governance processes. In conclusion, this analysis not only identifies prevailing gaps but also proposes an innovative framework for the effective governance of food systems, aligning with the objectives of sustainability.
