Layered double hydroxides (LDH) are anionic clays with lamellar structure which is available naturally and can easily be synthetically produced, having an advantage of making composites with polymers bound to have excellent fire-retardant properties. Here in this chapter, we discuss the influence of type of polymer, dosing of polymer and clay properties on the fireretardancy, in comparision with commercial fire retardants. The main advantage of LDH materials is that big organic molecules can be intercalated in between the layers and numerous inorganic metals can be used for making this which can lead us to tune the final property of such inorganic fillers. Further, this chapter highlights different works published by our group and some unpublished work also.
