Multidimensional Nanofillers for Bio-based Food Active Packaging
摘要
Nanoscience has ushered in a new era of technological advancement. Over the past few decades, nanomaterials have found applications in various sectors. One notable breakthrough has been in the food packaging sector. Nanosized fillers, known as nanofillers, are now being used in the development of biodegradable nanocomposite polymer materials. These nanofillers significantly enhance the properties of the resulting nanocomposite polymer materials. In this section of the book, we delve into the topic of bio-nanocomposite packaging materials, which are created by incorporating nanosized additives into biopolymeric matrices. Our review aims to explore the impact of the dimensional qualities of nanofillers on the functional properties of these materials, moving beyond the consideration of the biopolymer matrix alone. We begin by introducing the characteristics of various nanofillers and emphasize the functional variations that arise from their different dimensions. Furthermore, we discuss applications in the food packaging area where nanofillers have demonstrated their efficacy. By increasing the use of nanocomposite polymers, we can reduce our reliance on plastic-based packaging materials.
