Understanding the Use of Collaboration Tables in Crisis Response
摘要
Social applications like social media and collaboration platforms have been essential mediums for crisis response. Recently, we have observed that the online collaborative table, originally designed for online office collaboration, have been transformed into a new platform for crisis response. However, since these online tables were not specifically designed for crisis management, the patterns of how they are utilized in crisis responding context remain unclear. For this problem, we collected online tables used in four crisis events and made a quantitative analysis to explore the characteristics of interaction-pattern, usage-pattern, and role-pattern in the new crisis response applications. The results suggest that the online collaboration table plays an important role in seeking and providing support, verifying the authenticity of the information, and tracking the latest events. Diverse user roles were also uncovered in the collaborative table-based crisis response scenario, such as help seekers, leaders and moderators. Based on these results, we propose insights into the design of crisis-oriented collaboration tables to improve the ability to urgent respond in a crisis.
