Bohai Bay Basin and Mesozoic Reservoir Regime

The Mesozoic Bohai Bay Basin experienced a complex geological development history and severe late revolution, and the research foundation was weak, which to a certain extent seriously restricted the evaluation and exploration of oil and gas resources in the Bohai Bay Basin. Restoring the prototype basin pattern of each tectonic period in the Mesozoic, analyzing the formation, evolution and transformation process of the reservoir, and on this basis studying the different tectonic periods is the key to the exploration of oil and gas in the Bohai Bay Basin. The Bohai Bay Basin is located in the eastern part of mainland China, the various types of oil and gas resources discovered in the Bohai Bay Basin are widely scattered. The exposed oil and gas are mainly concentrated have been occurrence in the basement of the Paleozoic–Proterozoic marine stratigraphic system, forming a multilayer oil pattern in the longitudinal direction. The major distribution in Mesozoic time basin-forming and evolution mechanism are under Upper and Middle Triassic, Early and Middle Jurassic (J1+2), Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous (J3–K1) and K1–2 (or K2) S–N compression. The alternating compressional and extensional processes, along with episodic and periodic rifting processes and varying degrees of shear processes, were the main source of the crust in the Bohai Bay area during the Mesozoic era. In the Pre Jurassic Indochina movement which have underwent compressional deformation in result of NWSE folded structure formed, in Εarly Jurassic-middle Jurassic, the NCC was dominated by compression, resulting in the formation of a series of NE-SW directed large folds and faults and a series of depressions and uplifts in the Bohai Bay area. In the Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous crustal activities intensified, and material convection in the deep mantle was higher, leading to a shallow extension (NE-SW trending structures) of the crust and a wide range of rifting, attended by strong intermediate-acid magmatic activity and intense volcanic and granitic intrusion and major have a foundation for oil and gas accumulation i.e. Penglai 9–1 oilfield, D Oilfield in Southern Gentle Slope Zone of the Laizhouwan Sag and Buried Hills in Huanghua Depression in Bohai Bay basin and weak (rare) S–N compression in upper cretaceous. In Mesozoic time four different type of compressional forces and Paleostress field have close relation with the evolution of BBB. The role of Tan-Lu strike slip fault is controlling fault which have important geological boundary striking NNE in east China and since Mesozoic extensional and compressive behaviour on different segments during different geological stages, and different compressional episodes in Mesozoic time inferred the basin forming eras.
