Plastics are synthetic or semi-synthetic materials that consist of organic polymers with high molecular weight. Its also composed of various elements including carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, chlorine, and sulfur and its general chemical formula is (CH2-CHX)n. These days, the usage of plastic products is thoroughly increasing due to their consumer-friendly outcomes like inexpensive and versatility. However, most plastic products are non-biodegradable because fossil fuel-based plastic product manufacturing is a widely used technique. Larger plastic products are accounted for generating microplastics including microbeads, fibers, fragments, nurdles, foams, and films. Accordingly, plastic pollution is heading worldwide. Accumulation of these synthetic plastic products has been destroying wildlife, marine life, and mankind and unaware anthropogenic activities are the main reason for spreading plastic waste. Due to this serious problem, most worldwide governments have implemented some strategic policies to mitigate plastic pollution using a circular economy, extending producer policies and sustainable development goals. These various strategies at national and global levels were implemented by different continents including Europe, Asia, America, Africa, and Australia. The comprehensive plan utilizes the 3R principles of reduce, reuse, and recycling with various technologies including incineration and landfilling. Also, new biodegradable materials are going to be invented as innovative instead of fossil-fuel-based synthetic materials like plastics. Here, the article tries to compare anthropogenic activities for plastic pollution, various plastic phasing-out strategies, and activities of selected countries in the world.
