摘要
Waste management is one of the major environmental problems in recent days, and plastic waste management has become extremely difficult due to over-utilization across the globe enormously. Plastic waste management is still challenging in India due to the increased population and less awareness on the consequences of improper management of plastic waste. The present paper highlights the importance of proper plastic waste management in urban areas and proper governance in the management of the same. Also, it explains the new initiatives, such as segregation at source, zero waste management and 4-R concepts in the governance and sustainable management of waste at municipality levels, implemented by the author as the Commissioner of Mysore City Corporation. Public and stakeholder education, engagement, and participation in plastic waste management at municipality level have shown remarkable results of improved governance and policy implementation in the Mysore city in India.
