Advancements in Haploid Techniques
摘要
Haploid production is an efficient and effective research tool which offers the fastest route to obtain completely homozygous plants. Doubled haploid (DH) technology is a rapid method of producing homozygous lines for accelerated breeding of varieties and hybrids necessary to address the food demands of future. Significant progress has been made in this technology over the past few decades with efforts aiming to develop time and cost-effective protocols with better genotypic responsiveness in a wider range of crop species. DH technology is a method of choice of crop improvement in highly responsive crop species and in which haploid production methodology/protocol has been well established. The past decade has seen an appreciable resurgence in the advancement of haploid technology. This chapter discusses the recent techniques and advancements made in haploid technology to accelerate haploid production in crop plants.
