The Japanese Special Needs Education provides triple track-shaped curricula for courses with regular school subjects, courses with subjects for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and courses mainly taught with “Jiritsu-katudo,” a containing activity to promote disabled students’ independence based on individual learning difficulty. Therefore, a common curriculum framework is necessary to ensure continuity among the three curriculum tracks. This article discusses the problems with placement and curriculum modification for students with severe cognitive learning difficulties.
