The situation of sexual and gender minorities, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning/queer (LGBTQ) in Japan, has been changing dramatically since the 2010s. The most representative examples of this change in this decade are the nationwide expansion of the “partnership certification system,” the development of “support for LGBTQ children and students,” which began in compulsory education and extends to higher education thereafter; and the improvement of working condition regarding sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) in Japanese companies. This paper provides an overview of recent developments regarding LGBTQ/SOGI and the spread of diversity, equity, and inclusion in Japanese society in recent years, and discusses the current and future challenges.

摘要
