The Japanese government has been increasing the number of inbound international students for decades. After the decline caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry plans to rework its strategy to increase the number again. International students in Japan face unique difficulties and challenges that can cause them additional stress and put them at risk of mental health problems. Especially during the pandemic, the daily changes and uncertainties have made international students even more vulnerable. This chapter discusses the changes and difficulties faced by international students and the support they need. Future directions for research are also discussed.
