The Ripeness theory of I. W. Zartman gives a clue to imagine conditions for the termination of the Russo–Ukrainian War. While the theory only provides a vision of the end of the war in an abstract manner, it still helps us to illustrate key issues to bring an end to the War. To achieve ripeness as the basis of negotiations for peace agreement or ceasefire, it is imperative to identify the state of MHS (mutually hurting stalemate). In the case of the Russo–Ukrainian War, there was a moment of ripeness during the Donbas War. But Russia’s increasing involvement which eventually led to its full-scale invasion collapsed ripeness.
