UAV Rendezvous Path Planning Method for Aerial Docking

To solve the problem of UAVs moving from the combat zone to the rendezvous area with the tanker, this paper presents a UAV rendezvous path planning method for aerial docking. First, the modeling is introduced, including the obstacle modeling and the UAV modeling. Then, a rendezvous path planning is designed. For the long-distance aerial rendezvous stage, Interfered Fluid Dynamical System is used to design the rendezvous path planning method; for the short-distance aerial rendezvous stage, the adaptive sliding mode guidance method is designed to restrain terminal line-of-sight angle; for the aerial rendezvous stage between refueling initial point and refueling control point, a velocity planning method for UAV is proposed. Finally, through the simulation of the whole rendezvous process, the UAV successfully avoids the obstacle and reaches the aerial refueling initial point with the desired LOS angle, and UAV and tanker achieve point parallel rendezvous at the aerial refueling control point, which proves the effectiveness of the method in this paper.
