Mission command has become the mainstream command mode of air confrontation. To better perform the mission, the pilot needs ubiquitous and essential tools to obtain the necessary situation information and turn-by-turn decision services while driving. However, interacting with such tools while driving through visual-manual interaction modality inevitably causes pilots distraction, due to the highly conspicuous nature of the focused behavior of pilots. In this paper, we present our efforts and findings on designing and implementing IMC, an intelligent mission commander for hands-free, eyes-free human-to-machine interaction in a fully voice-controlled manner. Specifically, IMC enables active-command and passive-response with pilots through voice interaction, which minimizes pilots’ distraction and cognitive burden. Simulation results demonstrate that the IMC enables autonomous mission command to pilots in air confrontation scenarios and facilitates a better interaction modality by providing pilots with in-app natural language queries, situation recognition, and aid decisions.

摘要
