Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumours (GIST)
摘要
A 65-year-old lady presented with symptomatic anaemia (fatigue, dizziness) for several months, blood investigations revealing haemoglobin of 6.5 g/dL. Bidirectional endoscopy was normal, but CT abdomen and pelvis revealed a jejunal mass (Fig. 1). A small bowel resection confirmed gastrointestinal stromal tumour of spindle cell morphology, 6 cm with 6 mitoses per 5 mm2, margins clear, no rupture. Sequencing studies confirmed KIT mutation (exon 11 deletion). The patient received adjuvant Imatinib 400 mg once daily for 3 years. Two years after Imatinib discontinuation, she relapsed with peritoneal disease, for which Imatinib was reinitiated, achieving partial response.
