Lipomatous tumours encompass a broad spectrum of benign and malignant neoplasms originating from adipose tissue, ranging from simple lipomas to aggressive liposarcomas. While benign lipomas are common, well-differentiated and dedifferentiated liposarcomas require careful differentiation due to their potential for local recurrence and metastasis. Imaging, particularly MRI, plays a role in distinguishing benign from malignant lipomatous tumours, with features such as size, septal thickness, and non-lipomatous components aiding diagnosis. This chapter provides an overview of the classification, imaging characteristics, pathological features, and current management strategies for lipomatous tumours.
