Vulnerability Mapping Due to Drought in the Gunung Kidul Regency as an Effort to Reduce Disaster Risk from Climate Change Impact

Climate change occurs in various parts of the world, including Indonesia. Changes in the distribution and intensity of rainfall are one effect of climate change. Due to this climate change, the tendency of high-intensity rain patterns to become more frequent, but the time distribution is getting smaller/narrower. This condition causes the water balance to change over time. Sometimes, the amount of water is so much, even excessive, that it often causes flooding. At other times, when water conditions are minimal, it often causes drought. The phenomenon is that the number of flood events is increasingly frequent. On the other hand, a number of droughts often hit Indonesia, including the Yogyakarta Special Region Province, especially the Gunung Kidul Regency. To reduce the impact of drought, it is necessary to mitigate drought disasters. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can map drought potential and vulnerability conditions. By mapping the potential for drought disasters, disaster mitigation efforts can be carried out appropriately to reduce the negative impact of the disaster. This study aims to apply GIS to mitigate potential drought disasters in the Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region Province, Indonesia. The method used is to calculate the drought and vulnerability index in the district. After that, each index was mapped using GIS.
