Cross-laminated timber (CLT) is an engineered timber product that functions as floor, wall, and roof structural elements in timber buildings. Shear failure of these structural elements has the potential to occur. The absence of information on the shear properties of domestic CLT timber is an important point behind this research. In this study, the shear strength of CLT was investigated for two different layer configurations namely material configuration and geometry configuration. The material configuration consists of CLT made of Acacia (CLT) and hybrid CLT (Acacia-Mindi-Acacia) and the geometric configuration consists of symmetrical CLT and asymmetrical CLT. Two types of tests were carried out, such as planar shear test and short span bending test. As a result, the increase in outer layer is proportional to the increase in shear capacity of CLT, 32% increase in outer layer increases 24% shear capacity of Acacia CLT and 38% shear capacity of hybrid CLT. The short span bending shear stress predicted using the Gamma method showed that the shear stress of Acacia CLT was 36% higher than that of hybrid CLT because the shear stress of CLT is influenced by the performance of the middle layer.
