Research on a Geomagnetic Induced Current Simulation Device and Its Coupling Method with Transformers

Geomagnetic disturbances can be generated by abnormal solar activity and late effects of high-altitude electromagnetic pulses. Extreme geomagnetic disturbances can have an impact on the normal operation of a large range of power grids, inducing geomagnetic induced currents at the grounding neutral point of high-voltage power systems, causing an increase in transformer excitation harmonics, reactive power losses, and local hot spot temperature rise, further affecting the normal operation of the power system. This article first analyzes the dynamic process of the iron core coil flowing through a single pulse geomagnetic induction current. Then, the EMTDC program is used to simulate the excitation current and line current of a single-phase test transformer, and the dynamic changes in the DC component of the iron core magnetic flux and excitation current of the test transformer under the action of a single pulse simulated excitation induction current are obtained. This calculation result has significant guiding significance for future experimental work.
