Bangladesh’s geography, population density, congested infrastructure, and propensity for natural disasters make it the most climate-vulnerable nation in the world. Many natural hazards: cyclone, flood, salinity, drought, tidal surge, and riverbank erosion hit Bangladesh due to it’s geographical position and worst weather conditions. Due to its geography, the country is extremely sensitive to cyclones; even light storms can be fatal. Approximately 55% of the whole coastal zone being populated within the country’s 100 km of drift territory is normally vulnerable. The leading goal of the study is to investigate locally appropriate adaptive strategies and substitute means of livelihood for the vulnerable and climate-affected communities in Bangladesh’s coastal region. A thorough, semi-structured interviewing method was used for the study including 400 household surveys, 15 FGDs, and 20 KIIs. The locations of the study were Taltoli and Kalapara upazila in Bangladesh. The study found that people have different livelihood patterns; agriculture (25%), fisheries (15%), livestock (5%), and day labor (11%). Study also revealed that the natural hazards destroyed their crops, fish, and livestock products. Lack of nutrition (45%), poor sanitation (54%), a rise in child labor (42%), and lower school attendance (72%), are the negative effects of climate change on children and adolescents. People build indigenous structures one corner of the room made of bamboo called Machan/Pataton to protect household items (31%); temple-shaped houses (19%); and raised house platforms (7%) to avoid the effects of climate change. People stayed in houses with high ceilings (27%), and used plastic containers (13%), to avoid natural hazards. They prioritize consuming less food (7%) and relying on low-cost food (18%). People change their occupation (60%), sell trees (48%), livestock (9%), and other productive assets to mitigate or cope with adverse effects of climate change and enhance resilience against climatic hazards. Findings of the research show a pathway for community people and the line departments towards climate resilience through locally suitable techniques.
