WRF and CFD Simulation Comparison of Wind Resource Assessment Under Microscale Wind Park-A Case Study

This study is based on the research background of increasingly prominent environmental issues and the maturing wind power industry. It utilizes numerical simulation methods employing Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to conduct climate simulation and wind farm design for a mountainous region in Hunan Province, China. The findings reveal that the study area exhibits meteorological characteristics such as high altitude, high wind speed, low pressure, and low temperature. Furthermore, an investigation into the wind energy loss of the wind farm designed in this area under four different wake models demonstrates its commendable performance with a maximum wake loss of 2.6% and a potential generating capacity not less than 6.2GWh/y. Consequently, this study provides valuable insights for pre-evaluation judgment and planning of wind farm construction in high mountain areas.
