The Government of India has targeted for a minimum 30% of the first-hand automobile sales to be electric by 2030 and ‘Zero Emission’ by 2070. Contextually, the present study aspires to make a prediction about the probability of a young resident of West Bengal, India, choosing to buy an electric two-wheeler (E2W), while identifying the factors behind such choice. Responses could be obtained from 413 young adults of West Bengal, belonging to the age-group of 18–41, using a questionnaire circulated through snowball sampling technique. Multinomial Logistic Regression (MLR) model is applied, followed by Chi-Square test. About 30% of the respondents opted for E2Ws among whom female students and employees, having an annual family income greater than INR 1,20,000 were found to have the highest probability of choosing an E2W. The daily distance to be commuted, number of persons commuting and the perceived benefits of E2Ws were the factors contributing towards the choice. The study endeavours to guide the manufacturers in understanding the volume of production required to meet the demand for E2Ws, the marketers to appreciate the expectations of the prospective customers, and the policymakers in subsequent E2W policy formulations for developing strategies towards faster adoption of E2Ws in India.
