This study evaluates the effectiveness of Moodle, a widely used Learning Management System (LMS), through a mixed-methods approach combining survey and content analysis. The research focuses on identifying the perceived strengths and weaknesses of Moodle as reported by lecturers and exploring ways to enhance its effectiveness as an LMS. A Likert scale survey was conducted with 107 lecturers across three universities in Yogyakarta to assess their experiences and sentiments toward Moodle. Following this, an open-ended questionnaire was administered to 10 lecturers from different programs to gain deeper insights into their experiences and perceptions of using Moodle. Findings reveal that Moodle’s strengths include its customization capabilities and community-driven updates, which allow for tailored educational experiences and continuous innovation. However, challenges such as a steep learning curve, an outdated user interface, and technical requirements were also identified. The discussion emphasizes the need for improved user experience, better training programs for educators, and enhanced mobile accessibility to address these issues. The study recommends integrating advanced analytics for personalized learning and optimizing the platform for diverse educational contexts. These findings underscore the necessity for ongoing development and adaptation of Moodle to maintain its relevance and effectiveness in the competitive LMS market.
