Since usability is one of the key attributes of healthcare applications with impact in their safety and effectiveness, this scoping review analyses the usability assessment of virtual reality applications to support the care of elderly people. The twenty-four studies that were reviewed developed and assessed healthcare applications with four main purposes: (i) promotion of healthy lifestyles; (ii) clinical assessment; (iii) rehabilitation; and (iv) healthcare support. The results show that usability assessments present high heterogeneity between studies. Moreover, in general, the researchers failed in relevant methodological aspects such as the use of triangulation of methods and the use of standardized assessment instruments (i.e., scales and questionnaires) or to consider an adequate number of participants to allow significant results. Therefore, there is the need to improve the quality of usability assessments.

摘要
