Decentralized Water Consumption Tracking: A Blockchain Approach
摘要
Water consumption data collection and recording through blockchain would allow such data to be collected and recorded in real time to the existing water billing system of the Municipality of Ginatilan, Cebu. Water flow sensors and Internet of Things (IoT) provide a part of the solution. Municipal field workers doing manual meter reading and water consumption encoders will be free from the daunting tasks. What used to take days up to a week of manual work to collect and record water consumption data will now be real time. YF-S201 and ESP8266 with an Internet connection automate the collection and reporting of the water consumption data to the blockchain. A simulated module of the water billing system will retrieve the consumption data and feed it to the billing system. This study presents a decentralized water tracking system using IoT and blockchain technologies, achieving real-time data collection and significantly reducing errors and delays in water billing. The system ensures data integrity and transparency, with initial test showing 100% reduction in manual data entry errors.
