In the automotive industry, product safety and conformity become a stringent aspect of product development and for product management in manufacturing phase and after end-of-production. At the same time, sustainability requirements become more and more important in all industries, as the economic organizations have to adhere to the imposed targets of governments or political organizations worldwide. For each organization is a continual strive to identify their strategy and plan a concrete action plan to achieve the intended results. In this study, the correlation between sustainability and the special characteristics of a product developed in the automotive industry is outlined. As the automotive industry is becoming more and more depended on the new technologies, the special characteristics concept and correlation with product safety, conformity, and sustainability become very relevant in reaching the maximum potential of a product not only in terms of financial profit but also in terms of product sustainability. The study is based on automotive head-unit product, a product that contains both hardware and software components.
