Modeling the Factors of Implementation of Ergonomics Improvements in Manufacturing Organizations

Ergonomics is increasingly implemented by many companies to improve their productivity, optimize the current production process, and reduce musculoskeletal disorders among employees. Identifying factors, ranking, and prioritizing each of them is of utmost importance to a manufacturing organization for its continuous improvement in all aspects. The objective of this paper is to analyze the interrelationships among the major factors in the ergonomic systems implementation process. The Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) approach is used to analyze the interrelationships between factors, and MICMAC analysis is applied to classify the factors. The results of the paper indicate that “top management support” is the most important factor in implementing ergonomic improvement. This study helps manufacturing company managers identify independent and dependent factors to focus on the implementation of ergonomic improvements.
