Analysis of forest cover dynamics and long-term landscape pattern can provide significant insights on the landscape functions and are essential to prepare effective conservation and management strategies. This study has mapped the forest cover dynamics in Keonjhar district of Odisha state using multitemporal Landsat and Sentinel 2 satellite data and quantified landscape pattern dynamics in three different time periods (2001, 2011 and 2021). The results indicated that the forest cover has declined in the study area and forest patches have become more fragmented over the last twenty years. The changes are observed in north-western, central and south-eastern parts of the study area and are around mining and developmental activities. Results presented in this study provide valuable insights into the status of forest cover and spatial pattern of forest fragmentation and can be applied in preparing forest conservation strategies and land use planning.
