Assessment Land Suitability for Solar Energy Farm Using GIS-Based Multi Criteria Analysis in Iraq

Natural resources are thought to be the primary source of economic activity in every nation on the planet, and one of the most important worldwide indicators of development is energy. Because of reasons like population increase, scientific and technological advancements, and other considerations, the need for energy is rising daily on a global scale. This study aims to assess the land suitability for solar energy farm in Iraq using GIS-Based Multi Criteria Analysis (MCA) based on various meteorological, economic, and environmental parameters. Five Criteria was used namely; solar energy, slope, Roads, electricity lines, and water. Also, the AHP method was used to determine the weight for each criteria layer according to its importance. Then all the criteria layers combined together using weighted overlay function in ArcGIS 10. The final map classify the study area into three zones; high suitability, moderate suitability and unsuitable, and the area for each class was computed. the result could be useful for the planers and policy maker for Sustainable development.
