Efforts have been made to understand this construct through various models. From sociologist to psychologist and biologist, all have shared various insights into this intricate construct. Each theory in itself gives valuable information, either, on the causal pathways or stages/process of suicide or ways toward prevention. This chapter is an attempt to present the existing models of suicide. It will cover the whole spectrum of perspectives, from Emile Durkheim’s work on suicide to stress diathesis model. Along with this, we would discuss the various emerging model as per the exiting literature. The chapter will also throw light on how positive psychology construct are emerging as a remedy to prevent it.
