Experimental Study on Thermal Decomposition of PVC Outer Sheath of High Voltage Under Different Humidity Based on Fourier Infrared Method

The thermogravimetric and differential thermogravimetric analysis of PVC cable jacket of high voltage cable was carried out in air atmosphere, and the initial pyrolysis temperature of PVC cable jacket was obtained. Fourier infrared spectrometer was used to detect the pyrolysis gases, and the pyrolytic properties of PVC high voltage cable outer jacket were studied. The influence of ambient humidity on the pyrolytic properties was preliminarily studied. The experimental results showed that the pyrolysis gases contained a small number of alkanes at different ambient humidity, and the characteristic absorption peaks in the infrared spectrogram showed that there are 2-ethylhexyl alcohol and Dioctyl Phthalate (DOP). The characteristic peaks of the infrared spectra of 2-ethylhexanol and DOP were strongly affected by humidity, with a 20% increase in humidity decreasing the absorbance by about 0.2%. The experimental results supply a theoretical basis for cable fire early warning.
