A Review of Non-contact Transient Voltage Measurement Technologies

Transient overvoltage is a critical factor leading to insulation damage and severe faults in power systems, posing a significant threat to the safe operation of these systems. Therefore, measuring transient overvoltage is particularly important. Compared to traditional voltage measurement methods, non-contact measurement technology offers higher safety as it does not require direct electrical connection with primary equipment. Additionally, these technologies are characterized by their small size, wide frequency band, and excellent transient response characteristics. This paper comprehensively reviews various existing non-contact transient overvoltage measurement technologies, providing detailed descriptions of voltage measurement methods based on D-dot, MEMS, electro-optical effect, electroluminescence, piezoelectric effect, and capacitive coupling. It also summarizes the principles, advantages, disadvantages, and application scopes of each technology.
