This paper reviews aspects of ageing in India. However, by virtue of its subject matter, this paper is also concerned with the ageing issues of India. It attempts to review the dimensions and efficacy of gerontological care in Indian society. The study addresses the pertinent but hugely neglected domain of the complex care system and comments on the impact of the processes of modernisation and industrialisation on the status of the aged. It examines the current socio-cultural scenario within which the Indian gerontological care system is nested, highlighting certain major concerns and apprehensions about the well-being of the ageing population in India.
