Sociological reflections on care usually start with a conventional psychoanalysis of a concern for ‘others’, (which, in fact, lies at the core of the idea of care itself), and ends with an exploration of its impact on other domains of life, especially on the relationships between individuals and groups. This concern for ‘others’ develops a kind of confraternity by sublimating the ‘self' for the cause of the ‘other’, and places an element of altruism at the core of the notion of ‘care’. Individuals, as social beings, collectively construct their own life-worlds; and the manifestations of ‘care’ (both as an action and as an attitude) as a category can be found in every social relationship and every social formation with varying degrees and intensities. It is, in this sense, processual and associative. This paper would try to examine the inherent dynamics of care from a sociological point of view.
