Digital Sociology: Dawn and Development
摘要
The digital revolution has altered the economics, politics, and society since the middle of the twentieth century. When we consider the technology connected to the digital revolution in terms of General Purpose Technology (GPT), it makes more sense. Building an Integrated Circuit (IC) has been made possible by Si-Materials as a GPT. Regarding how technology and society interact, Melvin Kranzberg's law should be taken into consideration. IC technology is governed by Moore's law. An understanding of Metcalf's law is necessary to dissect the network society. In the evolution of si-materials, IC, and nanotechnology technology, digital sociology in its new avatar has been born. With its new concepts and subject matter in the context of technology-society linkages, digital sociology should be used to study changes in the fields of economy, politics, society, and culture.
