Seismic Integration: Understanding Reservoirs and Revolutionizing Recovery
摘要
This chapter explores the advanced methodologies that integrate seismic data into reservoir characterization, with a particular focus on optimizing secondary oil recovery and well placement. It provides an in-depth review of recovery mechanisms-primary, secondary, and tertiary-and highlights the vital role of seismic data in enhancing recovery processes in mature reservoirs. Special emphasis is placed on the integration of multidisciplinary data, including geological, petrophysical, and seismic inversion derivatives, to build accurate and geologically robust reservoir models. Key seismic inversion techniques, such as simultaneous and stochastic inversion, are examined for their effectiveness in predicting reservoir properties, delineating thin beds, and optimizing field development strategies. The chapter also discusses the integration of seismic data with well logs and dynamic models, underscoring its potential to reduce uncertainties and improve reservoir modeling accuracy. Challenges in seismic integration, including uncertainty quantification in stochastic inversion and predicting reservoir characteristics in areas with limited well control, are critically analyzed. Emerging technologies such as Full-Waveform Inversion (FWI), machine learning, and 4D seismic are presented as future trends that promise to revolutionize oil recovery. Seismic integration is positioned not merely as a technical tool but as a multidisciplinary approach critical to enhancing reservoir management and ensuring long-term asset viability in a rapidly changing energy landscape.
